MEDICAL STAFF ISSUES & PROFESSIONAL LICENSURE

We provide innovative guidance and cooperative solutions to the unique challenges that arise from the complex, multi-faceted relationship between a hospital and its medical staff, especially in the midst of increased employment of physicians.

Our Approach

Medical Staff

We provide hospitals, health care institutions, medical executive committees and medical staff associations with counsel on a broad range of medical staff matters.

Services include reviewing and revising medical staff by-laws, rules and regulations for operational effectiveness and assessing medical staff by-laws  and rules and regulations for compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.

Our team also offers counsel for medical staff investigations, impaired professionals, corrective actions as well as fair hearing and appellate review proceedings. We defend lawsuits filed by physicians and other licensed professionals against hospitals, their administration and medical staff leadership.

We also conduct compliance and regulatory reviews and provide counseling regarding credentialing, EMTALA, on-call obligations and state and federal reporting of adverse actions and events. Additionally, we provide advice on quality improvement and utilization review matters as well as “root cause” analysis of sentinel events.

Professional Licensure

We advise physicians and professional clients on licensure matters, scope of practice issues and relationships with other professional and health care businesses.

We work with

  • Hospitals and health systems
  • Medical executive committees
  • Medical staff associations
  • Physicians and other licensed professionals
