Los Angeles, CA. Nixon Peabody LLP has expanded its Complex Disputes practice on the West Coast with the addition of partner Priya Sopori, an award-winning former federal prosecutor and seasoned litigator with extensive trial and counseling experience across a wide range of industries.
Based in the firm’s Los Angeles office, Priya has extensive business litigation and trial experience involving business and real estate disputes; intellectual property, labor and employment, securities, entertainment, cannabis, and wrongful death litigation; and white-collar matters. Prior to her private practice, Priya served as an assistant US attorney in the Central District of California, where she indicted 45 cases and successfully prosecuted a range of complex federal matters including sex crimes against women and children, white-collar fraud, and cybercrimes.
“As we further expand our litigation capabilities, particularly in California, Priya’s well-rounded background and deep courtroom experience will be an invaluable asset to our clients,” said John Ruskusky, leader of Nixon Peabody’s Complex Disputes practice. “She brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success in high-stakes litigation, representing an extensive and varied group of businesses, C-suite executives, and high-net-worth clients.”
In addition to her litigation focus, Priya often acts as outside general counsel to clients, providing guidance on employment, contractual, real estate, and intellectual property matters, as well as assisting with SEC compliance concerns and government investigations. She regularly works with investment funds, REITs, hospitality entities, hedge funds, and manufacturers, distributors, and retailers.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Priya to Nixon Peabody,” said Sonia Nayak, managing partner of the firm’s Los Angeles office. “Her addition as a dynamic ‘all-around litigator’ underscores our commitment to continuing to grow and diversify our litigation capabilities on the West Coast while putting a focus on exceptional client service at the forefront.”
Priya earned her JD from the University of Virginia School of Law and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania. She serves as the president of the board of Women in Media and has been recognized by Chambers USA since 2022.
