On September 12 and 13, 2019, the California Legislature passed a number of amendments to the 2018 California Consumer Privacy Act. The amendments leave the overall scope of the Act unchanged, but are generally favorable to business. They make the Act clearer, carve out certain conduct from its coverage, and, in some cases, make compliance easier. No further legislative clarification of the Act is expected in the near future. As a result, businesses should start preparing now to be in compliance by the Act’s effective date of January 1, 2020, based on these new amendments. Our latest Privacy Alert analyzes the impacts, which can be viewed on our website.
