Introduction
Charles Edson is a retired affordable housing attorney, who now lectures to business and professional organizations and trade associations—many of which he founded during his career—on housing topics. He also teaches a semester course on affordable housing at Georgetown Law.
My focus
Affordable Housing
My practice encompassed all phases of law relating to affordable housing development, finance and legislative efforts. Having previously served in the Office of the General Counsel at the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development, I offered nuanced insights to my clients, who developed and financed important affordable and government-assisted housing across the U.S. I also advised on legislative matters relating to affordable housing, including the low-income housing tax credit.
Now that I have retired my legal practice, I focus my efforts on housing advocacy and outreach. I also travel and speak at national affordable housing industry conferences and events, such as the Institute for Professional and Executive Development (IPED).
Looking ahead
Tax reform will determine how and if certain HUD programs will be funded in the coming years. We will continue advocating for these vital programs and financing mechanisms to preserve our affordable housing stock.
