Boston, MA. Nixon Peabody LLP is pleased to announce the appointment of Rick Pedone as leader of the global law firm’s Financial Restructuring & Bankruptcy team, which provides a range of services related to financial restructuring, bankruptcy, distressed M&A, distressed investing, and related litigation. The team advises and represents parties involved in distressed situations around the globe.
Rick is a nearly 30-year veteran of the firm. His practice is focused on helping distressed companies find a path forward as well as representing strategic buyers of financially troubled businesses, purchasers of distressed debt, creditors, and other parties in the financial restructuring and bankruptcy processes. His practice encompasses M&A, corporate governance, cross-border insolvency matters, financial fraud, and related litigation.
“The global economic landscape is rapidly evolving, and we’re committed to protecting the interests of our clients while helping to uncover and seize new investment opportunities,” said Rick. “I am honored and excited to lead this group of talented and experienced Financial Restructuring & Bankruptcy attorneys during a period of global economic transformation.”
Rick serves on the Board of Directors of INSOL International and is a Fellow of that organization. Many of the matters that Rick handles involve litigated disputes, allegations of fraud, and insolvency proceedings reaching across multiple jurisdictions. In recent years, Rick guided a large skilled nursing chain through a series of restructurings, avoiding bankruptcy; represented an unsecured bond trustee in connection with $1.8 billion debt arising out of the world’s largest failed leveraged buy-out and subsequent bankruptcy; and served as lead counsel in the bankruptcy of a travel agency impacted by COVID-19.
Rick also regularly advises directors, officers, and private equity investors on strategies to deal with financial distress and their obligations when operating in the zone of insolvency. In addition, Rick serves as outside general counsel to growing businesses and as a member of the board of advisors of a specialty financial services firm.
“Rick has long been a valued contributor to our Financial Restructuring & Bankruptcy team,” said Christopher P. Keefe, leader of Nixon Peabody’s Business & Finance Department, which includes the Financial Restructuring & Bankruptcy team. “He embodies our firm’s commitment to collaboration, innovation, and exceptional client service. I have no doubt he will lead our team in identifying new and creative ways to make a positive impact on clients.”
As leader of the Financial Restructuring & Bankruptcy team, Rick succeeds Victor Milione, a longtime firm leader who continues to maintain an active practice at the firm.
Rick earned his JD from Boston College Law School, cum laude, received an MSc from the London School of Economics and Political Science in comparative government, and his BA in political science from Bates College, graduating with honors. He is regularly ranked in industry publications as a leading bankruptcy and restructuring lawyer.
