New York, NY. Nixon Peabody LLP is proud to announce that Joseph Ortego, a prominent trial lawyer and partner in the firm’s Complex Disputes practice, has been appointed to the National Judicial College Board of Visitors.
Mr. Ortego, who has more than 30 years of litigation and business experience, practices in Nixon Peabody’s New York City and Long Island offices. In addition to his role in the Complex Disputes practice, Mr. Ortego leads Nixon Peabody’s Aviation practice; he chairs NP Trial®—an international team of the firm’s most successful and experienced trial lawyers—and serves as diversity partner, overseeing the firm’s strategy to attract, retain, and promote talented people with exceptional ability from a broad range of backgrounds. He has tried more than 100 cases to verdict in both federal and state courts across the country, and he has successfully represented clients before arbitration tribunals around the world.
The National Judicial College is the only educational institution in the United States that teaches courtroom skills to judges of all types from all over the country and abroad. The institution’s Board of Visitors is a group of nationally recognized individuals who advance the quality of education by serving as goodwill ambassadors, enhancing awareness of the college, and assisting with fundraising efforts.
Mr. Ortego focuses his law practice on complex commercial disputes involving toxic tort, class actions, health effects, environmental, employment, intellectual property, product liability, and insurance coverage, among other issues. His clients work across a wide range of industries, including aviation, chemical, food and beverage, financial services, insurance, pharmaceutical, medical devices, and life sciences.
Mr. Ortego received his J.D. from the Boston University School of Law and his B.A. from Syracuse University. He is an active member of the National Hispanic Bar Association and previously served as chair of the American Bar Association’s American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) National Trial Academy.
