Since the inception of our firm, Nixon Peabody colleagues have maintained a tireless commitment to community service and pro bono work. We see this work as both our professional obligation and a critical function of our democracy. Nationwide, the need for social investment in our communities and free legal assistance remains great. Law firms like ours are in a unique position to meet this demand, help level the playing field, and ensure that our country lives up to the promises that define us.
Through our Pro Bono and Social Impact program, we’ve mobilized around this shared commitment to maximize the positive impact we’re making in our communities. While we take a nimble and dynamic approach to social impact, responding to needs as they arise, we’ve organized our program around three core principles: equity for those whose rights are under threat, access for historically marginalized community members, and opportunity for the places we live and work. We believe these principles go to the heart of our commitment, and we advance our goals in many different ways.
We’re proud of the difference we’ve made for our clients as we work toward a more just and free society. We understand, however, that our efforts are a work in progress and a constantly evolving reflection of the times in which we live. For a glimpse at our program, the milestones we’ve achieved, and the direction we’re going, we’re excited to share a Snapshot of Pro Bono & Social Impact at Nixon Peabody.

The report is not intended to be exhaustive, but highlights the pro bono and social impact projects we pursue, each of which embodies our core values:
Equity
Whether challenging harmful community practices, supporting underserved individuals in need of counsel, or fighting unconstitutional and discriminatory laws, we stand up for those who have been historically overlooked by our justice system. A primary area of focus is transgender rights, where we’ve secured precedential wins in court while offering critical support to transgender members of our communities. We also dedicate significant resources to issues related to racial and gender equity, including support for immigrants and asylum seekers in need of representation.
Access
We strive to empower underrepresented communities and ensure they can enjoy the benefits, services, and opportunities promised to them under law. In pursuing this goal, we support military veterans, senior citizens, people with disabilities, disadvantaged communities, and others who’ve been excluded from basic public goods, rights, and services.
Opportunity
We strive to serve the places where we live and work each day, broadening opportunity for our neighbors and powering the long-term success of our communities. Among our notable initiatives, we host an annual NP Impact Week of Service, where colleagues from coast to coast come together and engage in service projects that benefit people and places in need in our own neighborhoods and communities — and beyond. Environmental sustainability is another linchpin of our program — we embed this cause not only in our pro bono work but in the broader service we deliver to clients.
