Introduction
Alejandro Amezcua represents clients within the community development financing space, with a primary focus on federal and state new markets tax credits.
My focus
My practice focuses on federal and state new markets tax credit (NMTC) programs. I help structure complex tax advantaged transactions that often combine NMTC funds with other private financing sources and public subsidies, including governmental grants, bond financing, and private donations. These transactions help drive economic development in historically underserved urban and rural communities throughout the country.
I also have extensive experience in acquisitions and dispositions, commercial lending, and development.
Over the years, I have helped my clients on a wide variety of projects, including mixed-use developments, healthcare facilities, community centers, and food banks—each of which improve the lives of the people who live and work within those communities.
Looking ahead
Tax credit financing is an increasingly complicated space to navigate, particularly at a moment in time when we need alternative financing options to be more available to underserved communities. Advocating for our clients should include a focus on making tax credit programs more efficient and allow for prompt deployment of funding sources.
