My focus
Patent Prosecution Experience
I have worked with individual inventors, startups, and established corporations to write and prosecute patent applications across many high-tech fields. My focus is on supporting the client throughout the whole application process, keeping them updated on the complexities of the patent system.
My clients include some of the most innovative startups and technology giants in the USA, Europe, China, Japan, and Korea, helping them to turn their best engineers’ ideas into valuable IP. I have also worked with cutting-edge research institutes across the world to encourage innovation in semiconductors, computer software, telecommunications, optics, and materials science.
Through this, I have gained a deep knowledge of how to effectively draft and prosecute applications to ensure the maximum protection of my clients’ ideas. My work has helped important products, technologies, and manufacturing methods be rolled out into the real world.
Prior Computer Science Background
Prior to becoming a Patent Agent, I worked as a Software Development Intern at Pfizer, Inc. There, I led development on a machine-learning-based platform to support laboratory research on potential carcinogens in pharmaceutical candidate compounds. There, I saw the importance of intellectual property to the company’s operations and planning. This, plus my studies in Computer Science and Science & Technology Studies at Cornell, gave me a first-hand look at IP protection and the process of innovation.
Looking ahead
The impacts of software and artificial intelligence are yet to be seen in many areas. Traditional manufacturing, logistics, and retail are all experiencing rapid change from the increasing digitization of society. While it may be hard to predict innovation, my experience has taught me one thing: IP protection is vital in shaping the future and ensuring the best outcomes for all. As new technologies are rolled out, there will be many new challenges to the current patent system that companies will need forward-thinking representation to face.
