Introduction
Tess McMahon focuses her practice on estate planning, tax planning, and estate and trust administration.
My focus
I work with clients to develop custom estate plans, including drafting wills, durable powers of attorney, healthcare proxies, revocable trusts, irrevocable life insurance trusts, and gifting trusts. Each plan is specifically tailored to meet the unique needs and desires of the individual or family. Such planning often involves working creatively to help clients navigate complex estate, gift, and income tax rules in a continually changing legal landscape.
I also assist fiduciaries with estate and trust administration, which includes guiding clients and appointed representatives through the probate process.
Looking ahead
In light of constantly changing family dynamics and frequent updates to estate, gift, and tax laws, I see the need to account for and anticipate such changes by creating flexible estate plans that can be adjusted as circumstances evolve over time.
With globalization on the rise and the far-reaching tax implications for families with US connections, multi-national families and their advisors should consult with experienced US advisors as early in the planning process as possible to prevent avoidable tax consequences later on.
