Anders D. van Marter
Senior eDiscovery & Data Governance Advisor
Introduction
Anders van Marter is a Senior eDiscovery & Data Governance Advisor in the firm’s eDiscovery Services team. He supports clients on electronic discovery projects, related specialty litigation technology services, and data privacy and information governance projects.
My focus
I assist clients and attorneys in planning and implementing efficient discovery processes throughout the litigation lifecycle. I provide technical consultations for clients’ information technologists and work with attorneys to develop tailored search protocols that reduce review time and pinpoint relevant documents. Additionally, I deliver comprehensive trial technology support.
Our eDiscovery team is especially well-equipped to insource many typically outsourced functions, keeping costs to clients down. We maintain a robust and competitive network of third-party contacts available at a moment’s notice to field large or atypical projects. I am well versed with Relativity and its analytics applications and leverage this technology to add a competitive edge to our legal teams’ discovery processes.
I also assist our Cybersecurity & Privacy Group with the technical components of privacy policy review and the implementation of technical solutions and system configurations. I have experience designing GDPR-compliant eDiscovery strategies, and Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, FERPA, and HIPAA data mapping projects and policy implantation, as well as BIPA litigation experience.
Looking ahead
Discovery continues to evolve in response to continually increasing data volumes and sources. There is already an uptick in competition to create both front-end document storage solutions with sensible retention policies as well as nimble, precise, and cost-effective electronic discovery software. I expect this competition to grow.
The number of privacy regulations and cyberattacks will continue to grow. I anticipate an increase in privacy laws at the state level that heavily borrow from the GDPR and focus on the privacy-by-design concept. I expect to see compliance efforts that focus more on understanding the kind of data that is collected as well as the capabilities of applications and systems that house data.
