New litigation partner is the sixth partner to join the firm in Southern California this year.
Los Angeles, CA. Nixon Peabody LLP is pleased to welcome Jonah D. Retzinger, a complex disputes partner serving the healthcare industry, to its Los Angeles office.
Jonah is the sixth new partner to join the firm’s Los Angeles office this spring. In addition to these partners, the firm also added five new lateral associates and resident attorneys to the Los Angeles office in recent weeks.
Jonah represents clients across the healthcare sector, including national physician practice management organizations and affiliated medical groups, academic medical centers, hospitals, integrated health systems, and Medicare Advantage Organizations in complex health regulatory disputes, False Claims Act (FCA) litigation, and government enforcement actions.
“Beyond his exceptional reputation as a litigator, clients will benefit from Jonah’s strong knowledge of the healthcare industry as he helps companies and organizations navigate complex regulatory issues,” said Sonia Nayak, managing partner of Nixon Peabody’s Los Angeles office. “Jonah is also a great fit for our firm’s culture, and his arrival speaks directly to our focus on growing our California presence and attracting top talent.”
In addition to his FCA practice, Jonah has significant experience defending healthcare entities in disputes involving the reasonableness of charges for healthcare services. He also regularly advises clients on the applicability and implementation of various healthcare laws affecting the revenue cycle for healthcare services, including the federal No Surprises Act (NSA) and associated regulations and guidance.
“Jonah’s FCA experience, wide-ranging commercial litigation work, and entrepreneurial spirit will enhance our team, both on the West Coast and nationally," said John Ruskusky, head of Nixon Peabody’s Complex Disputes practice. “In particular, his unique knowledge of healthcare revenue-cycle management dovetails nicely with our platform, and I have no doubt he will be a tremendous asset to our national healthcare practice and our California healthcare clients, in particular.”
Jonah earned his JD, cum laude, from Duke University School of Law and his BBA from the College of William and Mary. He is an active member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association, and the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
