Our people drive Nixon Peabody’s success. And we’re committed to fostering an environment that supports their well-being through evidenced-based programming, rich benefits, and a culture of connection and care.
A career in law comes with high expectations and unique challenges. We recognize that our attorneys and staff colleagues are people first, and we’ve built a culture that embraces their humanity, enriches their well-being, and supports their mental and physical health.
We were one of the first law firms to sign the American Bar Association’s Well-Being Pledge, and we continue to live out that commitment each year. Our focus is evident in every aspect of our firm, from the benefits we offer, the programs we design, and the progressive policies we implement, to our everyday spirit of collaboration, inclusion, and positive impact.
Tabitha RossChief Human Resources Officer
Our commitment to well-being infuses what we do.
We encourage our people to pursue work they are passionate about. Our Mental Health and Well-Being committee partners with our social impact team to coordinate collaborative service projects that are both personally and professionally fulfilling for our people.
We understand that a healthy workplace is a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace. Our resource groups—Black, Asian and Middle Eastern American, Hispanic, LGBTQ+, Women, and Veterans—act as an advisory board for our leadership team. They also provide a platform for colleagues to come together and support each other in their personal and professional journeys.
Our people have access to a wide variety of supplemental benefits to meet their unique and evolving needs. We offer confidential emotional and financial well-being counseling services, caregiver support and parenting counseling services, telehealth visits, personalized health and benefits assistance, and access to expert medical advice. We reimburse employees who invest in themselves, with an annual allowance for activities and equipment that promote health and well-being.
NP’s managing partner/CEO and chief human resources officer join colleagues from across the firm as members of our Mental Health and Well-Being Committee. This committee drives our firmwide strategy on attorney and staff well-being. Members meet regularly to discuss and create initiatives that respond to the needs of our colleagues. By drawing on a variety of perspectives, we ensure well-being is considered in every facet of our firm’s decision-making.
Each year, we participate in Well-Being Week in Law, an industry-wide event that raises awareness about well-being in the legal profession. During the week, we organize events aimed at strengthening bonds between our colleagues and feature a keynote speaker to spark important conversations about topics including substance misuse, burnout, and maintaining a healthy relationship with work. We pair Well-Being Week in Law with regular programming that advances the discussion year-round.
Our firm embraces a flexible approach to work arrangements that includes a variety of remote, in-office, and hybrid options to meet the individual needs of our colleagues. We also offer generous policies related to short- and long-term leave for various reasons, and a gradual return-to-work schedule. These policies are designed to consider the mental health and well-being of our people and drive a culture that encourages attorneys and staff to work in a way that balances client service, professional success, and personal needs.
We actively listen to feedback from our people and collaborate across departments on the best ways to meet their needs. Firm leaders regularly solicit feedback from attorneys and staff and share this feedback with stakeholders from various departments. Notably, we include well-being–related questions in our regular Pulse surveys, which gather anonymous feedback on important topics at the firm. This dialogue helps us meet the evolving needs of our people in an effective and holistic manner.
