Lori Taylor is the Founder and CEO of The Produce Moms, lobbyist on Capitol Hill, superwoman working mom, and proud Nixon Peabody client, among her many illustrious titles. We were thrilled to have her join us in the latest podcast episode for She Talks Law.
The Produce Moms is on a mission to put more fruits and vegetables on every table through educating consumers on the benefits of eating fresh produce, the growing process, and how to select, store and serve it. What started as a passion project is now a trusted source of information, promotes fresh food with a network of countless partners in the food, beverage and agriculture industries, and boasts several co-branded product lines in a grocery store near you.
I've been lucky to have a front row seat to The Produce Moms’ achievements and growth under Lori's leadership, supporting the business as its outside general counsel. In this episode, Lori speaks to the importance of engaging a trusted legal advisor as one of a “village” of professionals that every emerging start-up needs to build a strong foundation. I wholeheartedly agree with Lori's take on this and encourage businesses like hers to see legal spend as an investment in the business rather than an expense to try and avoid. For me, having an opportunity to be engaged by a business and work alongside them to develop legal strategy in partnership with the development of the business as a whole is a win-win. Significant legal or compliance issues often can be spotted before they become more expensive problems, and by learning about the business and its goals, we can provide legal services more efficiently as time goes on. Plus, it's a whole lot of fun to watch your clients succeed.
Listen in for our full conversation discussing this and other key takeaways. Lori also shared her story of entrepreneurship, leading a business through the COVID-19 pandemic, recently achieving B Corp certification, and all of the highs and lows along the way
I’m so proud to be counted as a member of The Produce Moms’ team and I can't wait to see where Lori leads them in the future.
