New York, NY. Nixon Peabody LLP is pleased to announce that fund formation attorney Ed Winters has joined the international law firm’s Corporate practice as a partner.
Based in the firm’s New York City office, Ed joins the Private Equity & Investment Funds team. Ed’s practice focuses on fund formation, representing asset managers, family offices, venture capitalists, and institutional investors. He also guides US and international clients through the governance, regulatory, and transactional challenges relating to the dynamic investment management landscape.
“Ed’s significant cross-border fund formation and investment management experience will further enhance our group’s capabilities and provide invaluable support to our clients,” said Todd Tidgewell, leader of Nixon Peabody’s Corporate practice. “We are excited to welcome Ed to the firm and look forward to introducing him to our clients and colleagues.”
Ed has extensive experience advising financial institutions on the structuring and distribution of investment funds domiciled in the US, Europe, and the Middle East, with an emphasis on those employing alternative strategies. This includes assisting private equity firms with the acquisition, disposal, and operation of portfolio companies. He also has deep experience advising clients on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) rules.
Having formed numerous mutual funds and undertakings for the collective investment in transferable securities (UCITS), Ed’s experience includes retail funds. He also counsels investment advisors on compliance with regulatory developments and their interaction with domestic and overseas financial regulators, ranging from authorization applications to enforcement proceedings.

Ed earned his GDL from BPP University Law School and his BA from the University of Leeds. He serves as a US board member of Shakespeare’s Globe in London and the Employed Barristers’ Committee.
