Chicago, IL. Nixon Peabody LLP is pleased to announce that partner Daniel Schwartz has been appointed as deputy leader of the law firm’s nationally recognized Intellectual Property practice, which guides clients through the complete IP lifecycle and handles IP disputes in venues throughout the US and internationally.
Nixon Peabody’s IP practice continues to expand the breadth and depth of its ranks. The group’s strategic expansion in 2024 includes the addition of five partners, eight counsel, 14 associates, and four patent agents and technical specialists. This infusion of top talent strengthens an already impressive team, responding to clients’ demands for increased breadth and depth of IP support—from protecting IP to supporting the commercialization and branding of those assets, enforcing intellectual property rights, and defending against competitors.
Based in the firm’s Chicago office, Dan is an IP litigator who focuses his practice on patent, trade secrets, trademark, copyright, and licensing disputes. He represents clients in federal court and before the US Patent and Trademark Office. Before serving as deputy leader of the Intellectual Property practice, Dan led Nixon Peabody’s IP Litigation team.
“Across industries, we’re seeing an increased client demand for sophisticated and creative counsel, and the need for multifaceted teams such as ours who can partner with clients to fully service all aspects of their IP needs,” said Seth Levy, leader of the firm’s Intellectual Property practice. “Dan’s approach is reflective of this—he excels at bringing together IP prosecution and litigation services with our transactional capabilities. His leadership within our group strengthens our ability to help clients transform their ideas into market success.”
During his career, Dan has litigated cases involving a wide range of technologies, including chemistry and chemical engineering technologies, 3-D vision technologies, wireless communications protocols, telecommunication networking architecture, arterial stents, GIS/geo-location technologies and database management, complex polymer chemistry, QR code technologies, and internet-related technologies. In addition, he frequently advises clients about artificial intelligence (AI) and technology, including preparing and developing strategies for implementing new technologies, as well as counseling on potential risks.
“In addition to his practice-related skills and background, Dan embodies our culture at Nixon Peabody,” said Anthony Barron, leader of the firm’s Litigation Department, which includes the Intellectual Property practice. “He is a collaborative leader who values colleagues’ perspectives, serves as a mentor to junior attorneys, and leads by example in providing exceptional results and value for our clients.”
