Los Angeles, CA. Nixon Peabody LLP continues to expand its Healthcare practice on the West Coast with the arrival of counsel Patrick Callaghan, who advises clients across the healthcare industry on transactions and regulatory matters.
Based in Nixon Peabody’s Los Angeles office, Patrick’s clients include health systems and primary care and specialty practices, such as ophthalmology, fertility, behavioral health, and oncology, post-acute and sub-acute providers, and dental and veterinary organizations. Much of his work advising organizations on mergers and acquisitions involves private equity firms and strategic provider clients.
“Patrick’s attention to providing exceptional client service and his experience advising a variety of healthcare clients—ranging from private equity firms and for-profit health systems to academic medical centers and behavioral health providers—will be a strong asset to our California healthcare clients as well as our national Healthcare practice,” said Lindsay Maleson, leader of Nixon Peabody’s Healthcare practice. “We are excited to welcome Patrick to our group and look forward to introducing him to our clients.”
Patrick also focuses his practice on providing regulatory guidance to hospitals, health systems, and physician clients on matters that include compliance with the Stark Law and Anti-Kickback Statute (AKS), corporate practice of medicine compliance, licensure and accreditation, and Medicare and Medicaid enrollment. He has advised clients across the US and several international jurisdictions on complex issues, such as compliant physician compensation arrangements and self-disclosure to the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Office of the Inspector General (OIG), and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Driven by the unprecedented transformations to healthcare organizations’ operations presented by COVID-19 and complex regulatory shifts across California, Nixon Peabody has continued to deepen and expand its dynamic group of transaction and litigation healthcare attorneys on the West Coast. The firm’s rapidly expanding Healthcare team represents clients in some of the largest investigations, litigations, and transactions across the country. Best Law Firms® recently ranked Nixon Peabody’s Healthcare practice as Tier 1 in its national rankings. Chambers USA ranked the firm’s Healthcare practice as “Elite” nationally and in California, with additional statewide recognition in Illinois and New York.
“Patrick’s arrival exemplifies our sustained focus on attracting and developing top talent in growing our firm’s California presence,” said Sonia Nayak, managing partner of Nixon Peabody’s Los Angeles office. “His commitment to making a positive impact on his community aligns well with our firm’s culture, and he brings an exceptional reputation for providing personalized counsel that meets clients’ current and future needs.”
Patrick earned his J.D. from Northwestern University, cum laude, and B.A. from the University of Notre Dame, cum laude.
